The Door Was the Portal: Feng Shui, Numerology & a Timely Shift

Sometimes the pressure builds so much that something has to give. For me, this summer, that “something” was my front door.

I had been feeling stuck. The energy in my home — and in myself — felt heavy. I was in the thick of launching summer camps, navigating family dynamics after my husband underwent emergency surgery, and trying to keep a creative business afloat in the middle of emotional exhaustion. Something had to change, or I was going to explode. So I did what any slightly unhinged creative might do: I painted my door.

But not just any color — and not just on a whim.

This was a carefully chosen shift using the energetic tools I trust most: feng shui, numerology, and cosmic timing. And I’m not exaggerating when I say: everything started to move.

According to feng shui principles, to strengthen the career area you should:

• Use water colors (deep blue, black, bluish-green)

• Incorporate flowing, curving shapes

• Clear clutter and make the entrance inviting

The color I chose — Everglade Deck, a deep bluish-green — checks every box. It’s a water element shade that encourages flow, opportunities, and renewal. And since my door faces north, it also supports the career and life path area of the bagua.

Astrological Timing: Summer Solstice to New Moon in Cancer

The timing wasn’t random. I started painting on the Summer Solstice — the longest day of the year, and a natural energetic peak point. It felt like my inner pressure had reached its max, and I needed a ritual to release and redirect it.

The door was finished just before the New Moon in Cancer, the zodiac sign that rules home, intuition, and emotional security. This moon was a portal of rebirth — especially for anything connected to family and domestic life.

And here’s what happened:

• As soon as the first coat went up, I signed a new client.

• By the time the final coat dried, I had three more.

• On the day of the new moon, I got a landed a new TV gig.

Coincidence? Maybe. But I’ve learned not to underestimate what happens when you take symbolic action with aligned intent.
